Selectv is a low cost pay TV provider here in Australia.

Although they do not have the same amount of channels as Foxtel, they do offer a cheap ($29.95/month) English package and some foreign language packages.

The English package includes channels such as BBC World. the Movie Network suite of channels, MTV and Cartoon Network, to name a few.

According to a post by the Selectv rep. on the Austech.info forums:

The English package will get stronger not weaker. We want more subs on English not less. There are add-on packages in the pipeline that should come on-line in the next few weeks (for a few dollars per month each – not tens of dollars). There will also be some additional cannels in English basic. Expect more not less!

I’m looking forward to the upcoming channels and am interested in what they will contain.

As a subscriber, I find the lack of a contract and the fact that you can use your own equipment is something that I wish Foxtel etc. had.

Hopefully Foxtel will give Selectv some of their channels, but one’s like FOX8, I would be surprised if Selectv could get them from Foxtel.
