Laser TV, will it survive amongst the other manufactures.

Mitsubishi has announced that it’s Laser TV technology will be coming out in the US soon. See their website at http://www.believingisseeing.tv/

Basically Laser TV’s use a bunch of lasers to try and give the best picture in a flat panel display (using DLP technology, so it’s similar to a projector but doesn’t need a globe replacement).

What I wonder, as both a consumer and a sales assistant is ‘Will Laser TV survive’. The technology sounds like it could be great, but with Mitsubishi being the only manufacture and it only being announced in the US, compared to LCD and Plasma which area available everywhere in different brands.

Also, technology such as OLED is being actively developed by companies like Sony and Panasonic, as well as improvements to backlighting on LCD’s. Laser TV technology has only been announced and developed by Mitsubishi, who isn’t giving much information away (see the FAQ on their website).

I think the thing here is that there’s no compatibility issues.

Just like VHS and Beta, Blu-ray and HD DVD it’s not a case of one system over another. People’s DVD players, cable-tv boxes will work with both formats. Both have the same plug sockets, both have scarts there won’t be any issues.

Sure, there is no compatibility issues in the way of connections etc. No way would you see changes happening like that (sure, new connections will be added but old one’s are kept).

The biggest issue, as I have said, is availability and licensing.
